JASNA-SW Spring Meeting 2007
One cannot have too large a party. --Jane Austen MAY 5, 2007, from 10:30 A.M. to 3:45 P.M. Three speakers who share our passion for Jane Austen joined us: ***Our very own Gracia Fay Ellwood spoke about “A Hole in Henry Crawford’s Heart.” ***Another local member, Laurie Viera Rigler, entertained us with some passages from her novel, Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict (Dutton, August 2, 2007). She also told us the story behind the book. ***Finally, past JASNA president Joan Klingel Ray traveled from Colorado to give us an illustrated lecture titled, “The Woman who Came to Dinner; Jane Austen Visits Country Houses.” She was also on hand to autograph copies of her newly released book, Jane Austen for Dummies. We also hosted a Jane Austen White Elephant Sale. Members sold their new and used Jane Austen things and raised a total of $321 for JASNA's Fund for Hurricane Katrina Library Relief. Our delicious lunch menu included . . . (with lime, sea salt and tequila butter sauce) (with white wine, capers, Italian parsley and light lemon butter sauce) (linguini pasta with marinara sauce and grilled vegetables) Time: 10:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. Location: The UCLA Faculty Center The event cost was, as usual, dependent upon membership status: $35 for current 2007 members of JASNA-SW -Current members could also bring one guest at $35 rate. $50 each for non-members -Included membership for the rest of 2007. $20 for high school and undergraduate college students -Copy of current identification must be submitted with payment.
