2007 Winter Meeting:
A Jane Austen Mystery Celebration

On December 8, 2007, JASNA-SW gathered for A Jane Austen Mystery Celebration at the historic Los Angeles Athletic Club. Here are some photos of the event.

Lynda Hall from Chapman University (left; here with co-V.P. of Programs Alice White)gave us a new perspective on Austen's most controversial novel with “Addressing Readerly Unease: Discovering the Gothic in Mansfield Park.”

Longtime JASNA-SW member Margery Rich gave us a fascinating talk on Pride and Prejudice as a detective novel.

Lunch was not only delicious, it was stimulating. Everyone participated in a lunch-table discussion in which we articulated what it is about Austen that we find so deeply satisfying.

In order to find out where we were sitting, everyone took one of these strips, and matched the sentence from the Austen novel to the title of the novel, which was on a centerpiece table card.

The lucky winner of the gorgeous holiday tea basket that Alice White created, and which we raffled off.
